Lartigue’ color photography, rarely exposed before ‘La vie en couleurs’ at La Mep, is pleasant like a beautiful family photo album, full of happy moments and holidays, spontaneous smiles and postures, delicate painterly light, humorous compositions.
I would have found it pleasant and happy, no more, if not for the way his subjects, young confident women, seem happy to participate in the staging and stylization – a more collective or at least complicit practice of photography than his famous BnW?
