I belatedly fell under the spell of Cathryn Boch’s drawings, one year after she won the Prix Drawing Now.
Layered, textured, threaded, they are a good instance of the inventiveness of contemporary drawing, as she sews over old atlas maps, or adds soap to her compositions.
Others artists have glued organic material to the paper including teeth (Sofie Muller), they have used dust and fluff and needles, or channelled the hazards of fire, wind (Bernard Moninot), stains (Jean-Claude Ruggirello) or magnetic forces (Nick Laessing).
