The works of Ed Ruscha at Gallery Gagosian all celebrate the visual culture of Los Angeles, but in a subdued way : positive words in shadowy corners, monochrome drawings of the Hollywood hills, photographs of trademarks in passé colors, slogans of hedonism in grey tones, or left blank in empty landscapes. The result is ironic, nostalgic, haunting.
